Phase Two - Implementing Skills

 “It’s what you are doing when no one is watching that counts.

In Phase Two, students are allotted more freedom, but also more responsibility and accountability; it’s highly personalized for each student. Students move to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and begin a more independent lifestyle. While a faculty member lives on site as a problem solver and supervises house matters, the daily life of the student is largely self-managed. Students are expected to implement the skills they have learned in Phase One. Self-knowledge, accountability and responsible relationships are integrated and internalized as a positive way of living.

The 3 Basic Principles of Phase Two:

  • Learn to integrate into a new community
  • Address one’s own needs while transferring newly learned skills
  • Take the next steps

Students design their own schedules, and select classes with help from advisors. They find employment and determine how many hours they can work while maintaining a healthy balance with school. Students also begin to build their own social network outside of the Echo Springs community. Daily chores and accountability for personal and shared space in their home are central to their continued success. Students are expected to attend various meetings with ES faculty each week. If applicable, support meetings such as AA and NA are attended according to student schedules. The focus of individual meetings addresses personal issues, with future plans and goal setting as priorities.

A daily schedule for Phase Two is as individual as the student. There is a general framework that students build upon to develop the program that is right for them. Students earn their way toward an exit interview and graduate from Phase Two, into Phase Out.
